A really cool gift

The biggest off-road of my life, coffee almost straight from Bad Bunny’s circle, and dinner with the whole family. Not bad at all.

Ho Ho Ho — or maybe oh oh oh, because I could write a whole book about that coffee. Visiting that farm was my wet dream, I won’t lie. I had a certain image of the place and the people. After all, it’s a farm that wins the Cup of Excellence (basically the Olympics for coffee beans). The biggest roasteries in the world work with them. Top of the top. A total hit.

We got the location where we were supposed to meet, the route was supposed to be a shortcut, and we were meant to cover the 50 km separating us in no time. That road turned out to be the biggest off-road adventure I’ve ever had in my life. In the dark. In a small car with four people onboard. It was scary. It was funny. It was worth it.

We made it to the restaurant where Antonio greeted us. Antonio didn’t look like he had anything to do with coffee farming. He looked more like a musician from Bad Bunny’s entourage. Another hit. Dinner and the meeting were great, but let’s say they were a 1 out of 10 compared to what happened the next day.

And the next day we visited the Corazon De Jesus, La Torre, and El Salitre farms. After the farm tours, Johny and Antonio prepared a cupping for us, and after the cupping — lunch, with their whole family present. The coffee itself? Well, that Geisha was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. But everything that happened around this trip is what makes me laugh out loud as I write this. I know I’ll go back to thank them for all of it. I’d be happy to pass along your comments about this coffee. To me, it tastes like something truly special. And as I wrote on our blog after returning from Costa Rica, choosing coffees for HAYB is my biggest passion — but in the end, I choose coffees for my wife. Meaning: I choose them so I don’t embarrass myself in front of the most important people in my life.
