Not Burma – Myanmar
This is just the beginning, we welcome coffee from there for the first time, and this is just the beginning of interesting facts!
It’s always cool when a new coffee comes in, and when it’s some cool new processing, it’s even cooler. Imagine what happens when it’s still a brand-new origin!
Coffee beans were provided to us by 88 Graines, Piotrek met Marcelo Pereira in 2019 – a coffee geek who worked on various farms in Myanmar for a good few years. It was thanks to him that he got in touch with Melanie Edwards – the girl responsible for the Behind the Leaf project.
Behind The Leaf is a bit of a hipster among farmers, or in other words: a new generation of farmers. People who are not afraid to experiment, planting new botanical varieties or adding yeast to fermentation (like in this coffee, for example).
The project started in 2016, producing 2.5 tons of coffee at the beginning, and in 2020 it was 30 tons! We keep our fingers crossed for further development because these grains are something unprecedented. Coffee is spicy in taste, and very characteristic, with tropical fruit in the background.
We like unusual, funky coffees and this is one of them. Let’s applaud this debutant on the HAYB coffee shelf!
