Kenya Handege AB – HAYB Speciality Coffee
We present you another coffee from Kenya! Fruity punch, lots of berries in a very thick brew. We recommend it for your drip or aeropress.
And where do the beans come from? – Handege Factory is located in the small town of Gatundu in Kiambu County. The name “Handege” comes from Ndege, Swahili, meaning plane. The Handege coffee factory is affiliated with the Ritho Farmers’ Cooperative Society. This association is located in Kiambu County and was founded in 1972.
Ritho consists of 9 board members and has two factories, Wamaguma and Handege. Handege is the smaller of the two factories, with annual production of about 150 million tons of washed coffee.
In accordance with the growing awareness of the need to protect the environment, the factory dug up sewage pits far from the water source, where the wastewater can drain back into the soil, without damaging the crop. In addition, the washing station encourages its members to plant trees on their farms and helps sort and collect waste from farmers. We also appreciate the help that our green bean supplier – Falcon Coffee – puts in the development of crops in Kenya and maintaining fair coffee prices.
